What is SHYP?
SHYP was created to fulfil a need; provide accommodation and semi-independent services to young people aged 16-18 leaving the care of the Local Authority. Our experience tells us that most young people leaving care find it difficult to transition into adulthood due to their complex needs. This may be because they are separated from their families, experienced a form of abuse or had a significant loss resulting in a fear of making new significant relationships. Others may not be able to speak fluent English and may have experienced gaps in their education. These experiences can result in anxiety driven behaviours, low self-esteem and a lack of confidence.
Our team of dedicated workers are committed to providing a secure base to enable the young people to develop and grow. By providing a stepping-stone between care and independent living, our objective is to support the young people to become mature, responsible and confident adults. Furthermore, SHYP believes that a relaxed but homely living environment combined with a robust support package will give each young person the motivation they need to enjoy life and achieve.
